Show me your Identification!
I wrote this letter to Terrible’s corporate office after an incident in which I was asked for ID. This is when I decided to stop smoking which was 12-11-2021. After I sent this letter, I was never asked for ID again for purchasing alcohol.
I have been discriminated against!
Teresa has always been a friendly nice lady. I remember her when she worked at store #156. She would sometimes give me a coupon while I purchased Nat Sherman cigarettes. Now she works at store #383 at 6660 Vegas Drive. For a couple of years she has done the ordering and specifically has ordered the Nat Sherman’s for me and has told me so several times.
On December 4th about 7:15am, Teresa warned me she was going to need identification as she was grabbing my favorite cigarettes. I opened my wallet and put it up to the window. Instead of asking me to take the license out of my wallet she got mad and said she “..had spoken to Mark”, “I don’t have to sell to you”.
I put a sticker that says “1776” so the date on my license is covered up. I would have taken the license out had she asked and assuming I wanted to make the purchase. I take it out at a couple of other places where they scan it into a computer.
One day a few weeks ago, I asked “Why do I have to show identification if you KNOW I am over 21, and you know I am over 30? I am 54 years old! How do I keep my right to privacy?” The manager Mark was listening to this conversation. I suspect the year that I was born is being put into the register for ordering purposes or statistical analysis. I now object to this data being collected. Teresa and Mark are using the Tobacco 21 law as an excuse for me to comply! Is this about whether I am 21? Is this about something else?
I spoke with Sandy at the Southern Nevada Health District regarding this incident. From their website there is FREE online tobacco merchant training at https://responsibletobacconv.com/. This training states that if someone looks under 30 years old, the merchant should ask for proof of age. Sandy invited me to take further action. I will wait a week or two.
I want the employees of store #383 to take the Free merchant training, stop harassing me and stop this discrimination!
